Most people in Ethiopia have never owned a listed security, for the simple reason that until recently it was not possible. That creates an obligation for the firms entering this market: an investor who does not understand what they are buying is not a customer. They are a liability, to themselves and eventually to the market's reputation.
Our investor education programme is built around a plain-language principle. No jargon without a definition. No product explained without its risks stated in the same breath. No projection presented as a promise.
The first phase covers the fundamentals: what a share actually is, what a bond actually is, how the exchange matches buyers and sellers, what settlement means, what fees you pay and to whom, and most importantly, how to think about risk before you commit money you cannot afford to lose.
The material is published free on this site and requires no account. We would rather someone read it and decide not to invest than open an account without understanding what they are doing.
